OCULARISTICA ITALIANA WAS FOUNDED IN 1920 AND ORIGINALLY BORE THE NAME “ISTITUTO OCULARISTICO ITALIANO PAOLO MODUGNO”, AFTER ITS FOUNDER.

Our ocular prostheses are made by the most highly skilled artisans. Initially the technique used for creating them was that of blown glass, which came from Germany. The cryolite prosthesis is made from a model which is then modified to obtain the desired result. This material, by its very nature is not unbreakable and is also less malleable than resin.

It is for this reason that from the 1960s onwards new techniques have been developed for the production of unbreakable resin prostheses. Over the years our ocularists, after long studies together with the leading European ocularists, have developed and innovated production techniques in order to arrive at the highest possible standards and quality.

We have come to implement an evolution of the French technique called “moulage” (casting/moulding) thereby obtaining a technology which is even more effective. The cast enables us to reproduce the exact form of the socket or eye and to produce a prosthesis which is perfectly adapted to the patient. The use of three-dimensional colours and our experience acquired in the chromatic reproduction of the irises permits us to obtain a perfect copy of the contralateral eye. The prosthesis will have a motility and tolerance which is unattainable using any other technique, making the eye look perfectly natural. The unbreakable nature of the material permits the patient to be perfectly confident about using it from day to day and cleaning it. This is exclusively thanks to our extremely long experience in the production of cryolite prostheses which has permitted us to acquire knowledge of fundamental details such as the patient’s tolerance and motility..

This is the result of over a hundred years of research and development, but also the updating of our technology by our medical team with over thirty years of experience which consents the evolution and implementation of unique and revolutionary techniques which have gained consensus from all over Europe and the world with our participation in many European and international meetings.
